"Find her. Now."
The young man's head bobbed once before he hightailed it into the woods.
Beau grabbed Alex's chin. "Where did she go, my dear?"
Chapter 29 421
Trey took one step toward them. The loud snap of a gun being cocked stopped him.
Beau never took his eyes off of Alex while he armed his gun, and then pointed it once
again at Trey's head.
"I'll ask you again, Miss Alexandra, where did she go?"
Alex pulled her chin out of his grasp. "I don't know."
Beau laughed. "You don't know?" He laughed as he backhanded her in the face with the
butt of his gun. "I hate liars."
Trey watched in horror as his wife slid bonelessly to the floor.

Chapter 30
"I'LL KILL you for that," snarled Trey.
"You forget who is in control." Beau drew small circles in the air with the gun he had
pointed at Trey's heart.
A light sound to the left made them turn in that direction. Beau smiled at the man who
walked toward them. Trey noted his all black ensemble. A bible gripped in his hands.
"It's about time you made it," said Beau.
"Had some things to take care of."
"I expect you to come when I summon you."
Trey watched the man size Beau up and, by the look on his face, the Preacher found him
lacking.
Completely ignoring Beau's remark he said, "You said there was a weddin' and a funeral
you wanted me to take care of?"
Beau stood still for a few seconds, as if he fought some inner rage, before answering.
"Yes. This young lady and I are getting married. These two gentlemen will be in need of
your eulogy in a few minutes."
Chapter 30 423
He looked at the pile of crinoline at Beau's feet. "It will cost you more for two of them."
"Fine, just get it done."
"Which first?"
"This one." he said pointing at Trey.
Metal scraped against leather as the preacher pulled out his Smith and Wesson and
pointed it at Trey's head.
"The wedding first," said Beau.
"It don't look like the bride is ready to marry yet. Besides, isn't one of these fellows here
her husband?"
"All in good time, my man."
The preacher shrugged. "Fine. Wake her up. Let's get this thing moving."
Beau bent down beside Alex and released her hands. He tapped her face gently, trying to
wake her up. When she didn't respond, he pulled her into his arms and shouldered her dead
weight. "We're ready."
The preacher just stared at Beau, caressing his bible in his hand. "She ain't awake yet.
The bride must say I do, or it's not a weddin."
Trey watched as his wife came to life in Beau's hands as he turned her to face him. One

minute she hung limply in his arms, the next minute her vibrant blue eyes opened and her
knee hit its mark.
Beau dropped his hold on her to grab his injured crotch.
"Beau, we're not getting married." Using the heel of her hand, she slammed his nose
upward, shattering it. Blood spurted everywhere. The metallic odor hung in the air. Her
foot came up and pounded into his chest, sending him flying backward through a glass
window and crashing to the floor inside. "Ever."
"You have two choices." She dusted off her clothes before looking up at the men who
surrounded them with guns. "Leave, or run the risk that I'll do the same thing to you next."
Alex watched as each of the men eased themselves away from her. Once they felt they
had enough distance, they ran like their coat-tails were on fire, everyone, but the preacher.
He strode toward Trey and Andrew while he pulled out a Bowie knife.
Alex leaped from the porch.
"Whoa, Ma'am. I'm just going to cut their ropes, nothing else."
The preacher moved slowly toward Andrew first. Keeping his blade in plain sight he
split the ropes in two. "She's sure a live one."
"I know." Andrew grinned as he rubbed his wrists.
Chapter 30 425
Trey's bonds fell from his hands seconds later. He raced to Alex's side. "You were
beautiful."
Tears shimmered in her eyes. "He wanted...he was going to...oh, Trey."
Trey held her close as she blubbered all the fear and frustration she kept in check during
those tense moments. He watched as Andrew checked on Beau.
Andrew stepped out on the porch in time to see the Preacher enter the woods. "Beau's
still alive, but barely. Miss Alexandra, I have never seen anything like that. You handled
yourself magnificently."
"Thank you." She blushed, still holding onto Trey for dear life. "It was instinct. I couldn't
stand by and let him take my life away."
Trey gently lifted her chin until he could look in her eyes. His lips lowered to hers.
Love and joy coursed through his veins. She was safe. Neither noticed Andrew moving
off to talk to his men, and to get all the men they arrested to the local jail.
ALEX PROPPED her head on one hand as she made another entry in her diary. After
explaining to Grams about her frightening experience, she wrote a little of her love for
